I'm surprised there hasn't been much or any comments about
the lousy audio output of this rig.  It is definitely
inferior to the other HTs on the market (the Alinco 580
blows it away).  It is not usable in a
car, hard to use on your belt without a spkr/mike at a
hamfest, etc.
Otherwize, I love it.  I've had it for three years, have
worn out two batteries and no problems (its great for use
indoors where there is plenty of oudio).

Use wire braid, as large as you can find. The shield from RG8 or 213 coax is good.
Automotive battery ground cable is good too.

Now here's a strange radio. It's a ham 2m xcvr on the left half
of the ht (that can also receive police vhf hi band) and a wide-
band 25-950 mHz am-fm-wbfm scanning rcvr on the right, with two
volume and squelch controls.

By the schematic, looks to use a diode matrix to control what
frequencies unit will work on, as that is how they set up if it's
legal in Europe, etc. *However*, no connections are shown between
the diode matrix and the processor or pll. Hmmmmmm. Anyone know
the mods on this interesting radio?

BTW, the antenna for the scanner rcvr side of the radio uses a
3.5mm standard headphone mini jack! The only really stupid feature
on this unit, as it falls out easily, not to get into the
technical discussion of using this type of connector up to
950 mHz, heheheh. Not whole lota real-estate on top of ht for
larger connector, but thought mebbe an sma type could be shoehorned
in. You real experts have any other suggestions?

I only get to this newsgroup about once a month, so if ya have a

Well here it is folks, hot off the press from Kenwood. A service Bulletin
about the PL tone distortion fix. In a nut shell the fix is to replace 7
resistors, they are as follows.

HRO in Portland, OR is outstanding in any category.  While I was
in the store I listened to a phone call that they were handling from
some real jerk customer.  It sounded to me as if they were doing everything
they possibly could to help this person including paying for shipping that
they normally don't pay for (overnight delivery for some item).  Their
prices were also in the competitive range.

They were very helpful and friendly to me.  My next purchase will be from
HRO.
